Policy

Turn the page:

1. Each Process should be a sensible unit of operation: non-trivial but also not too extensive.
2. No duplication between Disciplines: find one place for a Process to fit, even if it has to service other Disciplines.
3. Each Practice should be achievable in a minimum of an hour. Exceptions are permitted.
4. Governance processes are always policy or measurement not operational.
5. In each Discipline, we are aiming for
Small Business policy formula
.
i.e. Each Role spends an hour (or more) a week for somewhere between 6 and 18 month (average about a year) to achieve a maturity level.
6. No consultants. Exceptions for areas where amateur attempts will risk the business. Define scope tightly.
7. Even if they choose to do nothing, each Guidance should list the things they need to think about.
8. Invent nothing. The application to SMEs may be unproven but there needs to be at least some research on applicability. Successful testing is preferred. Proven experience is best. Where we have to make exceptions to this policy, it should be clearly indicated in the guidance that there is no indication of the applicability to SMEs. In such a case, there ought to be a good rationale for why it is believed to be applicable.
9. Cut to results, whatever works, no purists
10. No jargon
11. We must maintain open channels for feedback to improve
